Can Anyone Become a Colonic Hydrotherapist?

Everything You Need to Know Before Starting Your New Career

By Erica Hartley: Advanced Colonic Hydrotherapist and Trainer/Vice Chair for Rictat Colonic Association

If you’ve ever wondered, “Can I become a Colonic Hydrotherapist?”, the simple answer is yes – many people can.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that you have to be a nurse, doctor or healthcare professional before you can train in Colonic Hydrotherapy. Whilst many medical professionals do choose this career path, they certainly aren’t the only ones.

Over the last 14 years, I’ve trained students from a wide range of backgrounds, all with one thing in common – a genuine passion for helping others improve their health and wellbeing.

If you’re considering a rewarding career in the wellness industry, this blog will explain everything you need to know.

Do I Need a Medical Background?

No.

You do not need to be a nurse or have previous medical experience to become a qualified Colonic Hydrotherapist.

Many of my successful students have previously worked as:

– Nurses

– Midwives

– Beauty therapists

– Massage therapists

– Personal trainers

– Complementary therapists

– Nutrition coaches

– Business owners

– Stay-at-home parents returning to work

– People looking for a complete career change

What matters most is your willingness to learn, your professionalism and your desire to provide safe, client-centred care.

What Qualifications Do I Need?

Before starting practical training, you’ll need an Anatomy & Physiology Level 3 qualification (or equivalent).

If you don’t already have this, don’t worry—I can guide you towards completing it before you begin your practical training.

No previous experience in Colonic Hydrotherapy is required.

What Makes a Great Colonic Hydrotherapist?

Technical knowledge is important, but so are personal qualities.

The best therapists are:

– Caring and compassionate

– Professional

– Excellent communicators

– Calm and reassuring

– Respectful of client dignity

– Passionate about health and wellbeing

– Committed to continuing professional development

Many clients arrive feeling nervous about their first treatment. Your ability to make them feel relaxed and supported is just as important as your practical skills.

How Does My Training Work?

I’ve designed my Colonic Hydrotherapy Training Course to fit around busy lives and existing careers.

Step 1 – Online Theory

Your theory is completed online, allowing you to study from home around your work and family commitments.

You’ll receive access to learning materials and complete four live online theory sessions.

Step 2 – Practical Training

Once your theory is complete, you’ll attend my clinic in Sheffield for seven days of practical training.

Dates are flexible and arranged to suit both of us wherever possible.

During your practical training you’ll develop confidence in:

– Client consultations

– Hygiene and infection control

– Safe treatment techniques

– Equipment set-up

– Professional standards

– Contraindications

– Clinical confidence

By the end of the course you’ll have the knowledge and practical skills needed to begin your career.

Why Train With Me?

Choosing the right trainer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make.

I have been practising as an Advanced Colonic Hydrotherapist for over 14 years and have treated thousands of clients.

I’m also proud to be:

– Vice Chair of RICTAT

– RICTAT Approved Trainer

– A mentor to therapists across the UK

When you train with me, you’re not just attending a course—you’ll receive ongoing support throughout your journey.

Even after you’ve qualified, I’m always happy to offer guidance as you build your confidence and develop your business.

What Career Opportunities Are Available?

Once qualified, many therapists choose to:

– Open their own clinic

– Work from an established wellness centre

– Add Colonic Hydrotherapy to an existing therapy business

– Combine treatments such as nutrition, massage or health coaching

– Continue developing through CPD courses

The wellness industry continues to grow, with increasing numbers of people looking to improve their digestive health and overall wellbeing.
